MNYAC Answers Global Call to Action at Peace Jam
By Victoria Johnson, MNYAC member

On April 12-13 members of the Minnesota Youth Advisory Council (MNYAC) attended the regional Peace Jam Youth Conference in Saint Paul, MN. The mission of Peace Jam is to create a new generation of young leaders who are committed to positive change in themselves, their communities, and the world through the inspiration of Nobel Peace Priza Laureates. A "Global Call to Action" for world peace was issued by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Archbishop Demond Tutu at this year’s Peace Jam. MNYAC answered this call to action by creating a service-learning project that supported women and children and their roles as leaders.

The project consisted of collecting donations including arts and crafts supplies, and journaling materials that were donated to the Domestic Abuse Intervention Project in Duluth. The highlight of the Peace Jam Conference was when MNYAC members were able to present their project to Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Archbishop Desmond Tutu taught MNYAC members that we can all make a difference and that to create world peace we need to start close to home. This was an absolutely amazing weekend that truly changed the lives of not only the MNYAC members, but everyone who attended this event.
