Apply to be an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow for 2008-2009
The applicant selection process has two stages, with the goal of having every Fellow hired by August 15th: 1. Application and acceptance by the Alliance & AmeriCorps and 2. Application and selection by host site.
To join the AmeriCorps Promise Fellow program, individuals are asked to submit a cover letter, resume, and 3-4 references: o Applications can be mailed to the Alliance’s office (1313 Fifth Street SE, Suite 321 Minneapolis, MN 55414). or emailed to: Melissa Burwell, Program Director, mburwell@mnyouth.net. o After receiving an applicant’s information, Alliance Program staff review applications and send them onto our partner host sites. o Please note that the Alliance does NOT place individuals, but works to bring together applicants and sites
Beginning in May, applicants will be emailed a list of sites and an overview of each project (including location, short description, and contact information) for the 75 sites. Then, applicants select positions that are of interest to them and apply to those Sites directly. Information about sites and position descriptions can be found on the Alliance website (www.mnyouth.net), on the AmeriCorps website, and at theMinnesota Council of Nonprofits job board at http://www.mncn.org/jobs/starting in late Spring.
After applying to as many sites as individuals choose, sites select and interview candidates of interest. Each FINAL candidate must
- complete the host site’s application,
- submit a cover letter, resume, and references to the Alliance
- complete a background check and courtesy interview with Alliance program staff.
After the courtesy interview is complete, the Alliance staff, in collaboration with the host site, will offer the position. A good fit between applicant and Site is critical for a successful year of service. The Minnesota Alliance With Youth will assist with the application process, but ultimately the site is responsible for selecting a final candidate for their position. Program staff will make the final decision in whether a candidate is offered a position and is responsible for managing the Fellow’s administrative paperwork required for hiring. ALL paperwork must be completed before the Fellow can begin serving, with the goal of starting on August 15th.
